Lok Adalat --Pecuniary Jurisdiction-- LSA Act Prescribes Territorial and Not Pecuniary Jurisdiction--Thus, Lok Adalats Can Settle Disputes Of Any Pecuniary Value

Section 19(5) of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, prescribes only territorial jurisdiction for Lok Adalats and not pecuniary jurisdiction. A Lok Adalat organised by a Taluk Legal Services Committee may settle disputes of any pecuniary value, provided the matter falls within its territorial jurisdiction. Absence of a Sub-Court within the taluk does not divest the Taluk Legal Services Committee of jurisdiction to entertain and settle such disputes.
