Taking of Cognizance--Limitation-- Period Of Limitation Under Section 469 CrPC Runs From Date Of Knowledge Of Offence, Not From Date Of Registration Of FIR
Under Section 469 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, the period of limitation for taking cognisance commences from the date on which the police officer first acquires knowledge of the commission of an offence, and not from the date of formal registration of the FIR. The subsequent registration of an FIR cannot reset or shift the commencement of limitation.
